Electricity distribution licensees, usually called DNOs (distribution network operators), own and operate the regional networks of overhead lines, underground cables and substations that carry electricity from the transmission grid into homes and businesses. Great Britain is divided into distribution areas, each run by one of the companies below. They do not sell electricity, but they maintain the wires and restore power after faults.
